ELAINE GAN

WALK ON RED, 2004

Under the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn, a 152-ft. walkway is built into leftover space: a narrow and unnamed alley that residents consider their secret shortcut. The wooden walkway is painted red to highlight open access and invite lively, oppositional flows. An attempt to create temporary public spaces out of liminal urban areas.
